In search of the original tiramisu: myths and flavors

Tiramisu is one of the most famous Italian desserts, enjoying immense popularity worldwide. Its name literally means "pick me up" or "cheer me up," referring to the invigorating effect of the coffee and cocoa it contains.
Several stories circulate about its origin: some sources say it comes from the Veneto region, others from Tuscany, and it became truly famous in the 1960s. Traditionally, it is made with strong espresso in which ladyfingers are dipped. The layered dessert is complemented by a cream made of mascarpone cheese, eggs, and sugar, and the top is dusted with bitter cocoa powder.
Interestingly, the original recipe does not contain whipped cream, liqueur, or heavy cream; these are later variations from different parts of the world.
The magic of tiramisu lies in being light and creamy at the same time, yet with a distinct character of flavors. Many love it because the harmony of coffee and cream creates a perfect balance between sweetness and bitterness. It is no coincidence that countless variations exist today: with strawberries, raspberries, or even in alcohol-free versions.
This dessert has become a true icon of Italian cuisine, finding its fans in every culture.
